Winter Weather Advisory issued for Northland as snow and frigid air move in for the week ahead.
An Arctic cold front is sweeping through the Midwest this weekend, bringing snow showers, plummeting temperatures, and wind chills in the teens. Starting Sunday night and continuing into Monday evening, light snow showers will blanket the region, with accumulation expected to range between 2 to 5 inches, especially in higher elevation areas. A Winter Weather Advisory has been issued for the Northland from 10 p.m. Sunday until 9 a.m. Monday, warning of slippery roads and reduced visibility.
As it cools overnight, Monday's high will occur right around midnight, with mercury continuing to fall throughout the day, reaching the 20s by afternoon. Winds will intensify, gusting between 10 to 20 mph, setting up potentially hazardous wind chills. Those outdoors will need to bundle up and expect a nasty wind chill.
Snow and cold air continue Monday and into Tuesday, along with lingers cloud cover, potentially producing light snow flurries through Tuesday morning. Sunshine breaks through intermittently during Monday afternoon and Tuesday. By Wednesday, conditions remain quiet with a brief break in the weather ahead of Thanksgiving.
Yet another cold front is expected on Thanksgiving Day, with highs in the 20s to 30s, and a second blast of Arctic air is expected to arrive on Friday. Those venturing out for Black Friday shopping can expect frigid temperatures and wind chills to drop below zero; dress warmly and take precautions against the cold.
That series of weather events makes clear that this region is vulnerable to early winter storms and extreme temperature moves. Temperatures remain below average throughout the week, and residents should keep an eye on forecast information and prepare for possible hazardous travel conditions.
