Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump has launched his family’s newest venture, World Liberty Financial, a cryptocurrency platform that adds a bold twist to his 2024 campaign. Announced in a live interview on the X platform, Trump touched on the venture while recounting an assassination attempt against him the previous day.
During the interview, Trump briefly mentioned World Liberty Financial but quickly shifted focus to an incident where gunshots were fired while he was playing golf. Trump praised the swift actions of his Secret Service agents, stating, “I would’ve loved to sink that last putt,” before crediting law enforcement for protecting him.
World Liberty Financial is expected to offer borrowing and lending services for cryptocurrency trades, presenting an alternative to traditional banking, which Trump and his supporters have claimed discriminates against conservatives. His son, Donald Trump Jr., further emphasized the political aspect of embracing digital currencies.
Critics, however, are wary of potential ethical conflicts, given Trump’s dual role as a business figure and presidential candidate. Government watchdogs expressed concern about the potential for personal profit from his new venture, especially given Trump’s earlier stance against cryptocurrency.
Despite this shift, crypto advocates view the move as a significant boost for the industry, with Trump vowing to make the U.S. the "crypto capital of the planet" if he returns to the White House.
