With the end of traditional ERP support in 2029, the switch to Dynamics 365 Business Central becomes essential.
Microsoft has said that, as of September 30, 2029, it will no longer be supporting Dynamics GP, its outdated enterprise resource planning (ERP) program. This action is in line with the software giant's plan to entice customers to switch to Dynamics 365 Business Central, a cloud-based solution that provides improved features enabled by artificial intelligence.
Microsoft will continue to release security updates for Dynamics GP as part of the transition until April 30, 2031; however, after April 2025, no new licenses will be offered. The benefits of moving to the cloud were highlighted by Mike Morton, VP of Microsoft Dynamics Business Central. He focused on the advanced AI technologies and strong security measures created to assist small and medium-sized enterprises.
Microsoft is advising clients not to use outdated on-premises systems, joining SAP and Oracle in doing so. While Oracle provides continuous support for PeopleSoft products through at least 2035, SAP plans to limit mainstream maintenance for its legacy Business Suite 7 until 2027. Oracle, on the other hand, encourages migration to Oracle Fusion Cloud Applications.
Industry observers observe that there is a growing movement toward cloud-based ERP solutions. CIOs must manage costs, security, and operational risks related to old systems while implementing changes in a timely manner. In order to maintain competitiveness in a market that is changing quickly, companies need to regularly assess their ERP strategy as the market changes.
