Weigel Broadcasting launches MeTV Toons, a 24-hour retro animation channel, debuting on June 25.
Chicago-based Weigel Broadcasting is to launch a new 24-hour retro animation channel called MeTV Toons on June 25. The channel is going to restore iconic animated shows and features from some of the biggest studios in the entertainment industry, providing a carefully curated selection of vintage content. The linear channel will be complemented by a companion FAST channel available on select streaming services, further extending the reach of the nostalgic programming.
One of the key content partners for MeTV Toons is Warner Bros. Discovery, which licensed a package of beloved classic cartoons, including Looney Tunes, Tom & Jerry, Scooby-Doo, The Flintstones, Popeye, Yogi Bear, and Top Cat. It will feature formats ranging from the classic series, made-for-TV features, to short films. Other notable acquisitions include Betty Boop (Paramount), Rocky and Bullwinkle (WildBrain), and The Woody Woodpecker Show (Universal).
The network is built to be both a nostalgic destination for adults who grew up watching these timeless animations and a new home for younger audiences discovering these iconic characters for the first time. Animation historian Jerry Beck will create a series of interstitials exploring the most famous cartoon archetypes. And Bob Bergen, the legendary voice actor behind Porky Pig and Tweety Bird, will become the signature announcer for the network.
MeTV Toons will join an expanding list of other Weigel Broadcasting networks which also includes MeTV, MeTV+, Heroes & Icons, Start TV, Catchy Comedy, Dabl, MOVIES!, and Story Television as well, with all of which expand the company's offerings in media.
