Stray Kids will not submit music for the 2027 Grammy Awards, following BTS as debate continues over the new Best Asian Pop Music Performance category.

The K-pop boy band Stray Kids will not be participating in the 2027 Grammy Awards. As per a statement released by their record label, JYP Entertainment, the group has decided to opt out of this year's Grammy Awards.
This decision has created quite a buzz, considering that Stray Kids was listed by Billboard magazine as a potential nominee for the new Best Asian Pop Music Performance category at the Grammys. The group recently dropped its mini album This & That, which is now topping the charts in many countries.
No reason has been provided by JYP Entertainment for Stray Kids' decision.
Stray Kids Follow BTS in Skipping Grammy Submissions
This move comes after BTS, the seven-member band, announced that they would not submit their latest album, Arirang, for consideration at the ceremony.
They said they wanted their music to be heard and enjoyed, irrespective of region or language. This decision came amid criticism of the new Asian pop category.
The Stray Kids 2027 Grammy Awards decision has brought more focus to the debate regarding the representation of Asian artists at the ceremony.
Debate Continues Over New Asian Pop Category
The Best Asian Pop Music Performance category was announced by the Recording Academy in June. Critics claim that placing Asian performers in a regional category might affect their chances of competing for awards in the Grammys' general field.
Grammy CEO Harvey Mason Jr said on October 1 that the category would go ahead as planned. He said the Recording Academy had received various opinions from music creators and those supporting the new category.
Discussion about the Grammy 2027 Asian Pop category is likely to continue as people consider the impact of the new category on K-pop and other Asian music.
2027 Grammy Awards Set for February
The nominations for the 69th Grammy Awards will be announced on November 16. The awards will be held on February 7, 2027, at the Crypto.com Arena in Los Angeles.
This means Stray Kids will not participate in the submission process for the upcoming Grammy Awards.
Why This Matters
With Stray Kids' decision following BTS, the debate about how the Grammys are approaching Asian pop music has become more prominent. The Recording Academy has confirmed that the new category will continue despite criticism from some artists and fans.
Business Honor observes that the decisions by two major K-pop groups have brought renewed attention to representation and recognition at one of the world's biggest music awards.
