Pokémon: Wild Card Sets 2027 Global Release with Anime Teaser

Pokémon: Wild Card will hit screens worldwide in 2027, bringing a new anime story featuring Mimikyu and a Pokémon Trading Card Game player.

The Pokémon series will be making its return to theaters through a new animated movie entitled “Pokémon: Wild Card” in 2027. This was confirmed in the 2026 closing ceremonies of the Pokémon World Championships in San Francisco through a teaser, which showcased for the first time ever the movie project.

The teaser introduces us to a Pokémon Trading Card Game player who is shown to be wearing a yellow hoodie together with Mimikyu, an interestingly mysterious Pokémon, a Ghost- and Fairy-type Pokémon which was first introduced in Pokémon Sun and Moon. The Pokémon has become quite famous for its ability to transform into Pikachu.

The movie will be directed by Katsuhiko Kitada. Some of Kitada's works of Kitada on anime include The First Slam Dunk, Attack on Titan, and Naruto: Shippuden. Character designs will be taken care of by Akemi Hayashi. Hayashi has worked as a character designer on Banana Fish and Lazarus.

The film will be produced by CloverWorks, an anime production studio from Japan. CloverWorks has previously made films like Spy x Family and Bocchi the Rock.

The information follows on from the success of Pokémon the Movie: Secrets of the Jungle last year. The title was a theatrical release back in 2020 before making its international Netflix debut in 2021.

Pokémon: Wild Card 2027 film is another addition in the timeline as the brand enters into yet another major phase. It was the 30th anniversary for Pokémon back in 2026, and the next batch of Pokémon game series, "Winds and Waves," is also expected to be released in 2027.

With a new director, an acclaimed animation studio, and Mimikyu taking the spotlight in its first teaser, Pokémon: Wild Card is already creating buzz among both fans and the entire anime fandom worldwide.
