Phison Unveils PCIe 6.0 SSD Innovation

Phison introduces advanced PCIe 6.0 SSD technology and energy-efficient PCIe 5.0 storage solutions for next-generation computing systems.

At Computex 2026, Phison announced its PCIe 6.0 SSD controller, which has seen great improvements that are aimed at meeting future requirements for AI infrastructures, enterprise data centers, and next-generation computing systems. The new X3 controller has been developed by Phison to deliver unprecedented storage speed, enormous capacity, and energy efficiency due to the high demands on high-performance enterprise SSDs.

The X3 16-channel controller offers read and write sequential throughput of up to 28 GB/s, as well as 6.8 million read/write random IOPS. Additionally, it allows for achieving up to 2 petabytes of storage per device, thus being one of the top next-generation PCIe 6.0 storage technologies under development today. Phison's new technology complies with NVMe 2.3 and OCP v2.6 standards, and features increased enterprise security options.

As far as the power consumption goes, Phison claims that the X3 PCIe 6.0 SSD controller has been developed to provide approximately 4 GB/s per watt of power consumed. In particular, Phison states that its technology can work with 7 watts of power. It is assumed that such technology will facilitate the implementation of efficient AI infrastructure due to higher speeds and lower temperatures.

Phison revealed that the X3 controller was nearing its completion stage and would soon undergo customer sampling from December 2026 and mass production starting mid-2027. Phison showed off the new controller in the form factor for enterprise applications, including the E3.S and E1.S models, although M.2 variations can be seen in the future.

Apart from its latest X3 controller, Phison also released its newest DRAM-less PS5037-E37T PCIe 5.0 SSD controller. The latest E37T showed sequential read speed more than 14,000 MB/s while requiring just 4.5W of power, which is much less compared to its leading flagship controller E28.

Analysts have said that the balance between performance, storage capacity, and energy-efficient solutions may help Phison in building an advantage within the highly competitive SSD industry amid growing usage of artificial intelligence computing. Business Honor believes Phison’s PCIe 6.0 SSD strategy highlights the growing importance of ultra-fast, energy-efficient storage technologies as AI computing, cloud infrastructure, and enterprise data processing demands continue accelerating worldwide.
