Secure Workforce Access enters new era as Citrix launches flexible consumption model addressing unpredictable operational costs.
Citrix recently announced Platform Flex: A Unified Secure Workforce Access for Organizations Challenged by Increasingly Diverse Workforces and an Unpredictable Working Environment. Platform Flex introduces an innovative consumption model that radically transforms the way organizations manage IT resource allocation and cost. The introduction of this new solution directly responds to one of the major challenges facing today's IT leaders. Filippo Vanara, Senior Research Analyst at IDC states "Unpredictable operational costs, combined with increasing expectations of resiliency, are causing CIOs to rethink their approach to security and providing access at scale." This is particularly difficult for small businesses with limited budgets, staff, etc.
Unlike traditional solutions that implement a universal licensing approach, Platform Flex utilizes a persona-driven architecture that gives organizations an avenue for allocating resources based on the needs of diverse workforces instead of the entire organization. With Flex credits, enterprises have the ability to purchase computing resources based on the actual usage of each organization. For example, a software developer who requires a significant amount of processing power can access powerful computing resources while an office worker who occasionally uses cloud-based applications only needs to be able to connect periodically to those systems and therefore will not require powerful computing resources. By utilizing this "granular" approach to consumption, organizations can meet spending needs while still providing employees with the necessary productivity levels required to perform their respective job functions.
Hector Lima (Citrix co-president) stressed how Citrix platform responds to the needs of customers based on their feedback. Lima said, "We developed the Citrix Platform Flex by listening to our customers about what they need right now...the ability to rapidly adjust as their workforce changes, their priorities change, and their environment changes." For small businesses facing rapidly shifting market conditions, this flexibility is critical for remaining competitive. The early adopters of this platform have indicated that it can be used successfully across a range of industries. The Salling Group (Denmark’s largest retail chain) is an example of a large retail organization leveraging the DaaS Flex infrastructure to provide support for its operations at many locations. According to Rasmus Poulsen, "Retail is a business that changes very quickly on a daily basis, so you must be adaptable daily." By matching the actual costs of operations with the actual use of resources, the Citrix Platform Flex has enabled greater operational efficiency.
Business Honor is of the view that Citrix Platform Flex's launch represents a strategic shift in secure workforce resource allocation and cost optimization capabilities.
