Baahubali 3 speculation intensifies as Prabhas, Rana hint at franchise continuation in Netflix documentary series
|
After the release of Netflix's documentary series, Bãhubali the Torch Bearer, about the Baahubali franchise and its behind-the-scenes journey, speculation has risen again about a possible third movie. Co-stars Rana Daggubati, Prabhas and Anushka Shetty dropped some major hints to the fans; during Daggubati's interview in one of the episodes, he stated, "The world may not be ready yet, but there will be Baahubali." This statement sent fans of the franchise into a frenzy, and particularly caught the attention of Prabhas as he held up 3 fingers in response, signalling to the fans this is confirmation that there will be a third film.
Prabhas movies’ Baahubali franchise has become a cultural phenomenon since its inception in 2015. The first installment, Baahubali: The Beginning, shattered linguistic and geographical barriers in Indian cinema, earning approximately Rs 600-650 crore worldwide and becoming the second-highest-grossing Indian film globally at that time. The sequel, Baahubali 2: The Conclusion, surpassed all expectations by grossing Rs 1,810 crore worldwide and making history as the first Indian film to cross the Rs 1,000-crore milestone. Following an orphaned character named Shiva, who has a deep connection with the falls that surround his village, Baahubali: The Beginning tells a complex story filled with dramatic moments of betrayal, interspersed with a story that follows an unbroken thread back to Shiva's ancestral link with the once-reigning king of Mahishmati. In this sense, Baahubali: The Conclusion Picks Up directly after The Beginning and continues the saga of *Lord Shiva* struggling to escape the clutches of his mother’s captor while also finding the answers to some of his life’s biggest questions.
Netflix's Bãhubali the Torch Bearer allows for the original cast to talk about their own memories created while filming the two-part series and how some of those memories were born out of challenging financial, logistical, and production aspects. This docuseries also covers the very grueling process behind one of the largest motion pictures made in India. For the diehard Baahubali fans who are reading this, the comments made by Prabhas, Rana Daggubati, and Anushka Shetty about a possible *third* Baahubali feature serve as a source of hope for continued future installments. Until Rajamouli makes the official announcement, there may still be some uncertainty about Baahubali 3, specifically because Rajamouli is known for his high levels of detailed organization in his planning, as well as his pursuit for perfection; therefore, a third film would likely have a lengthy period of developmental advance before being formally announced. This time gap would help explain the length of time between the conclusion of The Conclusion in 2017, and the lack of news regarding Baahubali 3 thus far.
Business Honor is of the view that the Baahubali franchise's persistent fan demand and cast's recent hints signal potential third installment development under director SS Rajamouli's strategic direction.
