Can Aircraft Manufacturing Leaders Transform Regional Aviation's Sustainability Future?

Aircraft manufacturing partnership between Deutsche Aircraft and Hexcel aims to revolutionize composite integration and sustainable regional aviation solutions.

  •    Hexcel will supply advanced composite materials for Deutsche Aircraft's D328eco regional turboprop aircraft.

  •    Partnership integrates state-of-the-art composites into primary and secondary aircraft structures for enhanced performance.

  •    Composite solutions reduce weight, improve durability, and increase fatigue resistance across the airframe.

  •    Long-term supply agreement supports certification standards, industrialization readiness, and European production requirements.

  •    Collaboration strengthens Europe's aerospace capabilities and advances sustainable regional aviation technology.

The partnership established between Deutsche Aircraft and Hexcel Corporation, a composite supplies manufacturer, is a long-running industrial association and supply contract for the German company to utilize cutting-edge composite materials within the company's latest regional aircraft. As part of the contract, Hexcel will provide the remedial supply of advanced composite materials for integrating into the D328eco’s airframe.  The D328eco is a new regional turbine engine designed, developed, tested, and built entirely in Europe. Through this industrial relationship, the composite products will be incorporated into both the primary and secondary structures of the D328eco. The materials are engineered to provide both mechanical performance (due to strength), low weight (due to effectiveness of material properties), and environmentally sustainable solutions that will provide significant improvements to overall aircraft performance. The intention of the D328eco and the creation of these advanced composite materials will achieve reduced weight, improved durability and fatigue resistance of airframe materials in line with commercial aviation operations.

The D328eco represents an entire rework of existing Dornier 328 turboprop aircraft using new engine technology, new advanced avionics systems and new airframes designed for environmentally-friendly operation, resulting in a reduced carbon footprint over the life of the aircraft. The development of this aircraft creates a competitive option for regional operators to consider in relation to both efficiency and sustainability as regional operators are becoming increasingly aware of the need for environmentally responsible solutions in an aviation market that is becoming more conscious of the impact of aviation on our planet. According to Lilian Braylé, President - Aerospace for Europe, Asia Pacific, Middle East and Africa & Industrial at Hexcel, "This project brings together state-of-the-art composite technologies, manufacturing expertise and a reliable supply chain to produce an aircraft that will lead the way in terms of efficiency and sustainability for regional aviation." Patricia Ferrari, Vice President of the Supply Chain at Deutsche Aircraft, commented on the strategic importance of the agreement from her company's point of view. "This is a German aircraft programme developed with strong industrial partners," said Ferrari. "The collaboration with Hexcel gives Deutsche Aircraft the opportunity to combine its advanced materials expertise with industrial reliability to realize its vision of delivering a very high-performing and sustainable aircraft for regional operators worldwide." The partnership between Deutsche Aircraft manufacturing and Hexcel reflects three critical operational priorities: compliance with rigorous certification standards, readiness for full industrialization, and long-term maintainability.

Business Honor is of the view that the Deutsche Aircraft-Hexcel partnership represents a transformative shift in aircraft manufacturing composite integration capabilities.
