Red Hat Launches 14-Year RHEL Life Cycle Subscription Model

Red Hat extends enterprise Linux support with 14-year RHEL life cycle subscription, strengthening long-term customer commitment and operational stability.

In a significant boost for organizations running mission critical systems on RHEL, Red Hat recently announced a Premium Support Package for its Linux OS with up to 14 years of full lifecycle management. This new Premium Support Package is the first offering of its kind to have extended support consolidated into one single service agreement instead of multiple agreements as has traditionally been done in the market.  As a result, organizations will now have a simplified way of managing their long-term support towards their RHEL infrastructure by having all the necessary products included in one purchase, therefore simplifying their administrative burden.

The red hat subscription price will include an additional six years of maintenance for minor releases thus decreasing the number of times organizations are required to upgrade their systems that can pose a risk to the organization’s operations and compliance with requirements due to the lengthy upgrade cycles.

This offering primarily will be made available to organizations in regulated industries such as financial services, healthcare and government where the stability of the Red Hat Enterprise Linux infrastructure and the documentation required for certification limit their ability to perform upgrades in a timely manner.

"By eliminating friction from the planning process with these new offerings, both the life cycle entry points into RHEL will be simplified and organizations will no longer have to deal with the stress associated with not having a clear upgrade path and constantly being on an upgrade treadmill," said Gunnar Hellekson (Vice President and General Manager of RHEL) regarding the new initiative. Because of this new offering, organizations will be able to develop a future state of stability and innovation as part of their overall strategic plan.

The new premium option on the existing RHEL products includes necessary tools that allow organizations to keep a strong level of security and compliance in place without needing to constantly upgrade their systems as new issues arise with the operating systems.

Business Honor is of the view that Red Hat's 14-year RHEL life cycle subscription represents a strategic commitment to enterprise customer retention and operational longevity.
