BMW Unveils Next-Generation Electric i3 Sedan at Munich Production Facility

Electrifying the Future: BMW's Neue Klasse Strategy Reimagines Compact Executive Segment.

As BMW moves into all electric cars, this comes at an important time since this is going to be part of BMW's strategy for the new i3 electric vehicle that they plan to build. This new electric i3 will be built in Munich, Germany, and will have all of the latest manufacturing technologies. Compared to the quirky little i3 electric that was created back in 2013, this new electric i3 is going to look like a full-size sedan, sitting next to the gas version of the 3 series.

The new i3, previewed in the 2023 Vision Neue Klasse concept, will be the next production model based on BMW's new EV platform after the all-new iX3, sporting a more mature design than the original concept with a next-generation BMW interior featuring an iDrive Head-Up Display that spans across the entire dash. The i3 is an example of how BMW is taking a gradual approach to electrification, as it does not replace the existing 3 Series but rather sells alongside it, at least one more generation of the existing 3 Series will be developed based on internal combustion engines. The i3 will also be offered with an M model version that will feature BMW's first production use of a four-motor powertrain, which is scheduled to debut sometime in 2024.

Some pre-production models are currently undergoing systems testing and will be used to train employees who will work in the production plants. The full reveal of the i3 is expected later this year and is expected to create a lot of buzz in the automotive industry. These challenges come at a very interesting time for the electric vehicle market, as there is currently much uncertainty surrounding consumer demand, economic conditions, and the like.
