ABB leverages Red Hat Ansible Automation Platform to automate IT, save 57 hours monthly, reduce costs, and standardize hybrid IT management worldwide.
Global automation and electrification powerhouse ABB uses Red Hat Ansible Automation Platform to automate IT processes and lower operational expenses. Since January 2025, ABB’s unified automation strategy has reduced average monthly manual effort by 57 hours for teams, resulting in faster software delivery, increased efficiency, and cost savings for 32 teams worldwide.
ABB’s centralized automation platform enables teams in over 100 countries to standardize management of complex hybrid IT environments while still maintaining local control. The platform enables 75+ live use cases, with over 150 in development, and has doubled ABB’s infrastructure capacity since its launch. The automation platform has achieved key efficiencies such as reducing monthly SAP server patching in China from 6.5 hours to 20 minutes per server and automating 4,000 service desk tickets, saving close to 40,000 hours of manual processing time. ABB has also automated disaster recovery processes and configuration compliance, which now covers up to 400 system configuration items.
“Our 32 teams that use automation report an average of 57 hours saved per month, which enables them to focus on more valuable work,” said Grzegorz Tomczak, ABB. The unified strategy has made it easier to comply and has sped up IT service delivery, which supports ABB’s automation-first strategy and its continuous improvement efforts.
Before, ABB had disjointed automation tools in its divisions, which led to redundancy, increased complexity, and varying levels of security. The adoption of Red Hat Ansible Automation Platform helps ABB have a centralized and multitenant environment, and it also enables the reuse of automation across divisions, which enhances enterprise cloud IT operations and hybrid IT infrastructure.
From Ansible’s success, ABB is now considering Red Hat OpenShift for application modernization. ABB believes that there will be more efficiency and cost savings, which emphasizes the increasing importance of automation in enterprise IT transformation.
