New update uses Apple’s Translation API to offer fast, private, and secure message translation within WhatsApp.
WhatsApp is now bringing its app translation feature to iPhone users. With this version, users may now translate messages from within the app, which helps multi language communication. Among the 19 languages and their regional variations supported by the new feature are Arabic, Chinese, Dutch, English, French, German, Hindi, Indonesian, Italian, Japanese, Korean, Polish, Portuguese, Russian, Spanish, Thai, Turkish, Ukrainian, and Vietnamese.
What sets this update apart is its utilization of Apple's Translation API, which was initially made accessible by WhatsApp in iOS 17.4. This suggests that instead of sending the communications to remote servers, all translations should happen locally on the device. This keeps the messages secret and encrypted at all ends, which many users find to be a big concern.
Users must update to the most recent version of WhatsApp on their iPhone in order to utilize the function. To translate a message, users can simply hold it down, select "More," and then select "Translate." One can also download language packs for quicker access if they use a certain language regularly. The invention is a component of a wider effort to increase the privacy and accessibility of translation software. Apple has also been creating its own real translation technologies, like Live Translation in Face Time and iMessage, even though they currently support fewer languages than WhatsApp.
This update makes WhatsApp more beneficial for cross border communication, especially for polyglot chatters. It also proves how translation technologies are developing while protecting user privacy because it runs directly on the device. With this move, WhatsApp meaningfully advances the field of mobile translation software.
