A small plane crashes into the Atlantic Ocean close to Vero Beach on the Florida coast, saving three lives.
Near Vero Beach on the Florida coast, a small jet crashes into the Atlantic Ocean, sparing three lives. The aircraft crashed around two to three miles offshore, east of Vero's South Beach and disappeared from radar. Important information for the search was added when a witness on land saw the collision and called the Vero Beach Police Department.
Piloted by Jonathan Lozada and Chase Gomez, the IRCSO's "Hawk" aircraft played a major role. The crew used a FLIR infrared camera and night vision to detect three heat signatures in the water. Lozada explained that they initially noticed a head above the water, which caught their attention. At first, it appeared to be debris. Upon zooming in, they identified it as three distinct heat signatures. It became clear that these were actually people in the water.
The pilot was soon discovered by the AMO teams after they had located two survivors. The rescue workers were informed by the third survivor that he was the pilot and that every passenger on board was safe. According to officials, the pilot was experiencing terrible rib discomfort and was in the worst possible health condition. The three were taken to the Fort Pierce, Virginia, U.S., after being saved from the ocean.
The names of the pilot and passengers are still under wraps. There were reports of serious injuries to all three. To ascertain the reason of the incident, investigations are still being conducted. The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) and the National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) and have been notified of the incident. They are leading the current inquiry in an effort to determine what caused the plane to plunge unexpectedly into the Atlantic.
