Can Indian Public Relations Transform Into Strategic Business Driver?

Indian public relations industry undergoes fundamental transformation with government clients tripling share and start-ups quadrupling investment across Asia-Pacific region systematically.

  • Indian PR industry grew 11% to ₹3,230 crore in FY26, with government clients tripling market share from 4% to 11%.

  • Start-ups quadrupled their PR spend to 22%, signaling sectoral shifts away from traditional corporate dominance toward emerging sectors.

  • Communications professionals now positioned as strategic business partners, with 46% directly influencing business outcomes and CEO advisory roles expanding.

The Indian Public Relations Consultants Association of India has released its comprehensive SPRINT 2026 report, unveiling a fundamental restructuring of India's communications landscape as the industry matures and embraces artificial intelligence integration. Reports show that the industry is changing, as growth slows down and means big change and restructuring instead of stagnation. the public relations industry of India has grown by about 11 percent this fiscal year reaching a total of ₹3,230 crore and taking 12.6 percent of the total Asia-Pacific market size. According to predictions of the industry, it might grow further until ₹4,500 crore by 2030, but slowdown compared to the trend of 12 percent of CAGR is a sign of qualitative changes rather than quantitative ones with priority given to quality and strategic relevance.

Kunal Kishore, the PRCAI President claimed that the industry has got rid of single narrative. "The profession has faced not a single challenge. It is undergoing a transformation in terms of skills, structures, and self-perception," he pointed out while highlighting that the communication industry is undergoing rapid changes. Ipsos conducted the research in partnership with Astrum Reputation Advisory and PRCAI that surveyed 143 respondents who are top decision-makers of consultancies, teams of corporate communications, as well as mid-level and senior specialists.

Key findings demonstrate that reputation has shifted from peripheral value-add to core business driver; artificial intelligence strategies are fragmenting into divergent approaches rather than standardized solutions; and large language models are rewriting brand discovery rules, elevating earned media, regional PR and influencer partnerships in significance. The profession's client acquisition models, operational structures and talent pipelines are simultaneously undergoing reshaping. Communications professionals must now sharpen strategic capabilities, adopt emerging technologies responsibly and reinforce positioning as trusted business partners navigating an increasingly complex organizational landscape.

Business Honor is of the view that PRCAI's SPRINT 2026 report signals a pivotal strategic repositioning of Indian public relations as essential business driver rather than communications support function.
