T-Mobile has launched a global capability technology center in Hyderabad that is India as a significant step in expanding their technology and engineering capabilities in the country. The center will be located in a 250000 square foot leased office building in Hyderabad that is the capital city of the Indian state of Telangana that is located in southern India. T-Mobile plans to have a workforce of about 1,000 employees working at this facility by 2027 and this will comprise an integral part of T-Mobile’s companywide global operations.
The new center’s work will include much more than traditional outsourcing work. T-Mobile employees will work on developing advanced capabilities in numerous critical areas, including software engineering, DevOps (development and operations), product development, data analytics, and cybersecurity. This broad range of capabilities shows that global capability centres have changed from being simply low-cost outsourcing centres to becoming advanced local offices that support their parent companies for multiple business functions. In a statement on the opening of the centre, Chandra Gupta, vice-president of IT at the centre, described the attractions of Hyderabad for technology companies that is the abundance of technology talent in the area, innovation capabilities that can be developed in the city, and an established technology ecosystem.
These factors have made the location an attractive choice for multinational companies seeking to establish or expand technical operations in India. The opening of T-Mobile's facility coincides with a broader trend of multinational corporations investing in India's technology infrastructure. As per the recent data, Hyderabad and Bengaluru are the most preferred cities for global capability centres and have collectively accounted for two-thirds of such centres established in India, according to the May report published by Nasscom, and Zinnov. This trend indicates that India has competitive advantages in attracting high-value technology investments and tech hiring with these cities providing mature business environments, good infrastructure, and strong concentrations of technology firms to support collaboration and innovation. T-Mobile's India centre is intended to leverage global talent pools while remaining close to technical skill sets and development capabilities.
