New AI tools improve code reviews, CI/CD troubleshooting, and DevOps efficiency.
GitLab has released version 17.10, which brings more than 120 new features aimed at maximizing DevOps workflows, automation, and offering greater insight into software development performance. The update centers around AI-powered tools, improved performance measurement capabilities, and workflow enhancements that increase efficiency for DevOps teams.
One of the best aspects of this release is Duo Code Review, an artificial intelligence-powered code review tool now available in beta. Duo Code Review brings automated code reviews to life by analyzing merge requests, identifying potential bugs, and suggesting improvements developers can make immediately. Through adopting Duo Code Review, teams can develop more rapidly and tackle code quality issues before human reviewers get involved, cutting down on development time significantly.
Another significant addition is the AI-based root cause analysis, now being offered for self-hosted. This functionality harnesses models like Mistral, Anthropic, and OpenAI GPT for the detection of CI/CD pipeline breaks. Through identifying root causes and job logs, it helps teams accelerate issue debugging with a minimized downtime saver that ensures compliance with data security standards.
GitLab 17.10 also includes high-level DORA metric visualization that gives DevOps leaders greater visibility into project performance. Projects by the DORA metric panel on the Value Streams Dashboard break down projects by performance levels, enabling teams to make informed resource decisions. Real-time monitoring of work progress in various locations is also provided through GitLab Query Language (GLQL) views, enabling collaboration without interrupting workflows.
With further workflow improvements, enhanced security management, and AI-driven automation, GitLab 17.10 solidifies its position as a full-stack DevOps platform. The ongoing emphasis on optimizing CI/CD pipelines and simplifying team collaboration makes this release a major leap forward in enhancing DevOps efficiency and software delivery processes.
