Jets aim for a fresh start following Saleh's departure in the middle of a challenging season.
The New York Jets made the decision to end the four-year tenure of head coach Robert Saleh just one day after owner Woody Johnson met with quarterback Aaron Rodgers. According to Johnson, he made up his own mind over the decision and was not influenced by any of these sources, including Rodgers or any other member of the team. Saleh coached the Jets for four years after beginning 2020. He finished with 20-36 and a best season record of seven wins. This team sits at 2-3 after suffering from a recent loss against the Minnesota Vikings in London.
Already this season, Saleh has faced criticism during a very public moment in Week 3 against New England Patriots, in which Rodgers appeared to snub an embrace from the head coach. But both have made light of the awkwardness and reportedly remain highly respectful of one another.
Without Saleh, the Jets must look to remake their approach and play for the remainder of the year as they aim to move forward. Concurrently, the organization is considering candidates for the head coaching position as it strives to lay down a more solid foundation for the team going forward.
This change, however, will be such that the attention of the public will, in the future, be more about how Jets can work on their game to add more efficiency and reduce penalties that have characterized them in this season.
