Former Tesla CEO and cofounder of OpenAI, Andrej Karpathy, said that he is launching his own AI education business with the goal of creating on-demand, customized AI teaching aides for students.
The business is headquartered in San Francisco and is known as Eureka Labs. It was registered in Delaware, US, as an LLC, according to a TechCrunch article.
It seems that Eureka Labs will create AI teaching aides that collaborate with human professors, based on Karpathy's post on X.
According to Karpathy, the instructor still creates the course materials, but an AI teaching assistant that is trained to assist students in navigating them is used to support, leverage, and scale them. The Teacher + AI symbiosis has the potential to operate a whole course curriculum on a single platform.
Additionally, he hinted that well-known individuals might serve as models for the AI teaching assistants. According to the firm creator, in the field of physics, for instance, one may see themselves studying through excellent course materials with Richard Feynman at your side, providing guidance at every turn.
But first, Eureka Labs wants to release LLM101n, its first product, before it can begin delivering AI teaching assistants to classrooms. According to reports, it will be a scaled-down version of what Eureka Labs hopes to accomplish and is an undergraduate course for those who are interested in learning how to train their own AI models.
Despite having held positions at well-known tech companies like Tesla and OpenAI, Karpathy's background is in education. He was a deep learning for computer vision professor at Stanford University in the United States until 2015. Later, he joined OpenAI as a founding member, but after two years, he departed the nonprofit to lead Tesla's AI division. Karpathy oversaw the group that developed computer vision for Tesla Autopilot while he was employed by the producer of driverless vehicles.
