SIMNET is a Canadian-owned Independent Software Vendor (ISV), cloud platform provider, and Managed Cloud Service Provider (MCSP) that helps organizations modernize, operate, and secure their technology environments through accountable cloud execution. Founded in 2008 by Ted de Vos, SIMNET has built its reputation on simplifying complex technology challenges through security, operational excellence, and accountability.
Beyond cloud infrastructure, SIMNET delivers end-to-end cloud lifecycle management—from assessment and migration to ongoing operations, governance, security, optimization, and support. Its portfolio includes private, hybrid, public, and sovereign cloud, AI-ready infrastructure, disaster recovery, managed security, compliance, cloud modernization, and resilience, enabling customers to meet performance, compliance, and data sovereignty requirements.
What sets SIMNET apart is its dual role as both the software company behind SIMNET Cloud™ and the Managed Cloud Service Provider responsible for operating customer environments. Through its cloud operations, cybersecurity, NOC, SOC, governance, compliance, and support teams, SIMNET provides end-to-end accountability across the cloud lifecycle.
In this interview, Founder and President Ted de Vos shares SIMNET's approach to hybrid cloud, security-first operations, and accountable execution, explaining how the company helps organizations reduce complexity, strengthen resilience, and modernize with confidence.
Below is an excerpt from the interview.
What inspired you to establish SIMNET, and how has your vision evolved as hybrid cloud and enterprise IT needs have progressed?
When I started SIMNET, the goal was not to build another hosting company or another IT provider. The goal was to help organizations achieve the performance, reliability, and accountability they needed to run their business with confidence. Technology has changed dramatically. We have moved from traditional infrastructure to virtualization, private cloud, public cloud, hybrid cloud, AI, and increasingly complex digital ecosystems.
The customer challenge hasn't changed. Only the complexity has. Organizations face growing demands to innovate faster while strengthening security, compliance, and resilience, often with stretched internal teams. Technology is rarely the problem; managing complexity with accountability is.
Our mission has always been to deliver better business outcomes through operational excellence and execution, not simply provide infrastructure. As hybrid cloud, cybersecurity, AI, and compliance have become more complex, accountability has become even more critical. Today, SIMNET is both the software company behind SIMNET Cloud™ and the Managed Cloud Service Provider responsible for designing, operating, securing, monitoring, and supporting cloud environments.
As the Managed Cloud Service Provider, SIMNET manages the entire operational lifecycle, including infrastructure, cloud operations, cybersecurity, governance, compliance, disaster recovery, NOC, SOC, monitoring, incident response, performance management, and ongoing support. We don't just provide the platform. We design it, operate it, secure it, and stand behind it. While technology continues to evolve, our mission remains the same: helping customers simplify complexity, operate with confidence, and achieve better outcomes.
What are the core services SIMNET provides in hybrid cloud and infrastructure, and how have these offerings developed over time?
SIMNET operates across three foundational pillars: infrastructure, security, and managed operations. Everything we do starts there because lasting business outcomes are built on strong foundations.. Our role is to provide the infrastructure, security, operational expertise, and accountability organizations need to grow with confidence.
Customer needs have evolved beyond compute, storage, networking, backup, and disaster recovery. Today, our portfolio includes private, hybrid, and sovereign cloud, AI-ready infrastructure, managed security, governance, compliance, cloud modernization, disaster recovery, and end-to-end managed cloud operations.
A major evolution for SIMNET is how we deliver these capabilities. After nearly 20 years of building and operating enterprise-grade cloud platforms, we are extending our technology and operational expertise to Managed Service Providers (MSPs), Managed Security Service Providers (MSSPs), Cloud Service Providers (CSPs), and Independent Software Vendors (ISVs).
Our goal is not to replace partners, but to strengthen them. We enable service providers to expand their portfolios and deliver enterprise-class private, hybrid, and sovereign cloud services without the cost and complexity of building the infrastructure themselves—offering a premium alternative to hyperscalers while allowing them to remain their customers' trusted advisor.
This is a natural extension of our long-standing philosophy: customers own the vision, and we own the execution. As technology evolves, we remain focused on helping organizations—and the partners who serve them—simplify complexity, maintain control of their data and operations, and achieve better business outcomes through accountable execution.
How does SIMNET approach end-to-end cloud lifecycle management, from initial assessment and migration to ongoing optimization and support?
We view cloud as a lifecycle, not a project. Most providers focus heavily on deployment and then move on. We take responsibility across the full lifecycle: assessment, design, migration, deployment, security, operations, optimization, governance, disaster recovery, and continuous improvement. Deployment is actually one of the easier parts. Operating a cloud environment over time is where organizations either build strong outcomes or accumulate operational risk.
Our approach is simple: deployment is the beginning of the responsibility, not the end of it. Once an environment is launched, our responsibility continues through performance management, resilience planning, security management, governance, optimization, and day-to-day operations. As the Managed Cloud Service Provider, we do not simply provide access to infrastructure. We are responsible for operating the environment through our cloud operations, cybersecurity, governance, compliance, NOC, SOC, monitoring, incident response, and support teams. Cloud success is not determined by how quickly an environment is deployed. It is determined by how well it is operated, secured, governed, and supported over time. That is the difference between providing cloud infrastructure and being accountable for cloud execution.
How does SIMNET manage complex hybrid cloud environments to ensure seamless integration and performance across systems?
Hybrid cloud is about managing complexity, not simply deploying infrastructure. Most organizations run applications, data, and workloads across on-premises, private cloud, and public cloud environments. The challenge is making these environments operate as one.
We believe every workload should run where it performs best, supported by consistent management, governance, security, and visibility. Our role is to provide a stable execution layer across these environments through integrated architecture, secure connectivity, unified operations, and operational accountability—so customers don't have to manage multiple providers, tools, and consoles.
That is why we built SIMNET Cloud Control™, our unified cloud management platform. Built on SIMNET's CloudStack-based private cloud, Cloud Control brings together sovereign private cloud, hybrid cloud operations, VMware management, multi-region infrastructure, AI-ready environments, security, governance, and connectivity in a single operational experience. It gives organizations the visibility, control, and predictable pricing they need while avoiding hyperscaler lock-in and maintaining ownership of their data, strategy, and outcomes.
But visibility alone is not enough.
As the Managed Cloud Service Provider, SIMNET is responsible for the ongoing operation of the environment through our NOC, SOC, cloud operations, cybersecurity, governance, compliance, monitoring, incident response, performance management, and support teams.
At the end of the day, our goal is simple: allow customers to focus on growing their business instead of managing infrastructure. We design it, operate it, secure it, support it, and stand behind the outcome.
What role does security and compliance play in SIMNET’s hybrid cloud strategy, especially for organizations handling sensitive or regulated data?
Security must be built into the architecture from the start—not added later. For organizations operating in regulated environments, data sovereignty, privacy, governance, auditability, and compliance are essential. Our approach is based on Zero Trust, security by design, continuous monitoring, governance controls, resilience, and operational accountability.
Security, governance, and operations must work together as a single operating model. Treating them as separate initiatives increases complexity, duplication, and risk. Embedding them into daily operations enables organizations to innovate with confidence while maintaining control.
As a Managed Cloud Service Provider, SIMNET helps customers translate security and compliance requirements into day-to-day operations across cloud management, cybersecurity, governance, monitoring, incident response, compliance oversight, and our NOC and SOC services. By integrating security with execution, we reduce operational complexity and strengthen accountability, allowing customers to focus on innovation rather than managing risk.
Our objective is simple: make security part of the foundation so customers can modernize with confidence, maintain compliance, strengthen resilience, and trust that their environment is being operated with accountability every day.
What differentiates SIMNET in designing tailored solutions for diverse clients, such as growing businesses, enterprises, or organizations with legacy systems?
Every organization is at a different stage of its journey. Some are growing rapidly. Some are modernizing decades of legacy infrastructure. Others operate in regulated environments where security, compliance, resilience, and availability are non-negotiable.
What differentiates SIMNET is that we do not start with technology.
We start by understanding each customer's business, operating environment, and goals, then build a modernization strategy that fits their objectives, timelines, and appetite for change. Rather than forcing customers to adapt to a platform, we design the environment around their needs.
Modernization should build on existing strengths—not create unnecessary disruption. It should reduce risk, improve resilience, and enable organizations to move forward with confidence.
As both the Independent Software Vendor behind SIMNET Cloud™ and the Managed Cloud Service Provider, SIMNET designs, operates, secures, monitors, and supports the environments our customers rely on every day. Our cloud operations, cybersecurity, governance, compliance, NOC, SOC, and support teams provide end-to-end accountability while helping customers manage complexity.
Whether integrating with existing environments, supporting hybrid architectures, meeting sovereignty and compliance requirements, or modernizing at a measured pace, we deliver the right foundation, the right operating model, and a partner committed to the outcome.
How does SIMNET help organizations maintain visibility and control across hybrid cloud environments while scaling their operations?
Hybrid cloud is not really a technology challenge. It is a complexity challenge. Most organizations have workloads spread across on-premises infrastructure, private cloud, public cloud, SaaS platforms, and increasingly AI services. The challenge is not deploying those environments. The challenge is operating them as one.
At SIMNET, we create a single operational model that unifies infrastructure, connectivity, security, governance, monitoring, support, and operational accountability. Customers should not have to manage multiple providers, tools, and consoles to understand and operate their environment.
Visibility alone is not enough—the ability to act on it creates value. SIMNET Cloud Control™ provides centralized visibility, orchestration, automation, and operational control across hybrid and multi-cloud environments, delivering a single pane of glass for infrastructure, connectivity, security, governance, and operations.
As the Managed Cloud Service Provider, SIMNET turns that visibility into action. Through our cloud operations, cybersecurity, governance, compliance, NOC, SOC, monitoring, incident response, and support teams, we provide continuous operational oversight and accountability. We don't just deliver dashboards—we deliver the expertise and operational discipline to reduce complexity, strengthen accountability, and help customers scale with confidence, control, and resilience.
Looking ahead, what are SIMNET’s strategic priorities or upcoming initiatives in hybrid cloud and digital infrastructure over the next 2-3 years?
We believe the market is moving toward three priorities: sovereignty, automation, and accountability.
Organizations want greater control over where their data resides, how their environments are operated, and who is ultimately accountable for the outcome. They want the flexibility to innovate without sacrificing visibility, governance, or control.
At the same time, they want to adopt AI, automation, and modern cloud capabilities without increasing complexity or operational risk. Cloud should be an accelerator for innovation, not another source of operational complexity. That is the future we are building toward.
Our focus is on evolving SIMNET Cloud™ and SIMNET Cloud Control™ into a unified platform for infrastructure, operations, governance, security, and lifecycle management. We continue to invest in AI-ready infrastructure, sovereign cloud capabilities, global delivery, automation, and AI-powered operations that help customers scale while maintaining visibility, control, and accountability.
The challenge is not a lack of data—it is knowing what matters and taking the right action. Our goal is to help customers adopt AI responsibly, make better decisions, reduce risk, and improve outcomes without adding complexity.
As both a global Independent Software Vendor (ISV) and Managed Cloud Service Provider (MCSP), we remain committed to simplifying cloud operations across the entire lifecycle. While technology will continue to evolve, our focus remains the same: delivering the operational discipline, security, governance, and accountability organizations need to innovate with confidence.
Finally, is there anything we have not covered that you would like to highlight - such as recent milestones, partnerships, or core values that define SIMNET?
What defines SIMNET is not a particular technology. It is our belief that technology should empower organizations, not intimidate them.
From the beginning, we have believed businesses should not have to choose between innovation and control, or between global reach and local accountability. They deserve both. Our mission has always been to eliminate complexity and help customers move forward with confidence. Whether we are modernizing legacy systems, supporting AI initiatives, strengthening cybersecurity, improving resilience, or helping customers expand into new markets, our role remains the same: meet customers where they are, architect a future that fits, and stand behind the outcome.
Businesses should not have to break what works to modernize. The best technology strategies build on existing strengths while creating a practical path forward. I do not believe success will be defined by who owns the most infrastructure or who has the most features. It will be defined by who earns the most trust, delivers the best outcomes, and takes the greatest accountability for execution.
Technology is easy to buy. Accountability is much harder to find.
The customer owns the vision. SIMNET owns the execution.
