Business Honor
Founded in 1990 by Peter Rappoccio, Sign Pro has built its reputation on dependable service, quality craftsmanship, and a strong commitment to its customers. What began as a company serving local businesses has grown into an established provider serving organizations throughout the Northeast and across the country. Under Rappoccio’s hands-on leadership, Sign Pro has expanded its capabilities while maintaining a close connection to the work, from design and fabrication to problem-solving and project delivery. This practical approach has helped the company take on larger and more complex projects without losing the personal attention and accountability that have defined its business from the beginning.
Interview Highlights with Peter Rappoccio
How would you describe Sign Pro today and the range of solutions you provide?
Sign Pro is a full-service signage, graphics and visual communications company. We help clients turn an idea, brand standard, or architectural concept into a finished product in the field. Our capabilities include architectural and dimensional signage, illuminated signs, channel letters, monument and pylon signs, interior signage, wayfinding systems, wall and window graphics, fleet and vehicle graphics, custom-fabricated displays, specialty branding elements, and maintenance services.
We also work closely with architects, contractors, facility teams and brand managers. Our goal is not simply to manufacture a sign; it is to understand the objective and develop a solution that supports the brand, the building and the customer experience.
Why is Sign Pro’s turnkey, end-to-end approach so important?
Signage projects can become complicated very quickly. There may be surveys, engineering, landlord requirements, municipal approvals, electrical work, fabrication, scheduling, site coordination, installation and closeout documentation. When those responsibilities are divided among too many companies, communication gaps and delays can occur.
Our model creates one chain of accountability. Sign Pro can manage the process from initial concept and field survey through design, permitting, project management, manufacturing, installation and ongoing service. That gives our clients a single team that understands the entire project. It also helps protect brand consistency, improve scheduling and resolve problems faster because everyone is working toward the same final result.
With so many types of signage available, how do you determine the right solution for each client?
We start by listening. Before talking about materials or fabrication methods, we want to understand the client’s objective. Is the sign primarily about identification, wayfinding, advertising, safety, architectural integration or brand experience?
We then evaluate visibility, viewing distance, lighting, code requirements, building conditions, durability, maintenance and budget. A sign that works well for a hospital campus may not be the right solution for a university, bank, retail location or motorsports facility.
Our designers, estimators, project managers and fabrication teams collaborate early so that what we design is also practical to manufacture, permit, install and maintain. That cross-functional approach helps us recommend solutions that look good and perform well over time.
Sign Pro manufactures extensively in-house. What advantage does that provide?
In-house manufacturing gives us control, and control is extremely important in custom fabrication. We can manage quality, materials, tolerances, finishes, illumination, graphics and scheduling under one roof rather than depending on multiple outside vendors.
It also lets us react quickly when a project changes or field conditions require an adjustment. Our facility supports metal fabrication, custom sign construction, CNC and digital production, graphics, assembly, electrical work and other specialty processes. For clients, that means greater customization and fewer handoffs. We can identify issues before they become field problems and keep the finished product aligned with the approved design.
Sign Pro works across many industries. How do you adapt to different client environments?
Every industry has its own priorities. Healthcare environments require clear wayfinding, consistency, durability and sensitivity to patients and visitors. Educational institutions often combine campus identity, donor recognition, athletics, interior branding and directional systems. Financial institutions may require strict national brand standards and coordinated rollouts across multiple locations.
Municipal and government projects demand attention to specifications, procurement requirements and public safety. Retail and corporate clients often focus heavily on brand presentation and speed to market.
Our job is to learn the operating environment of each client rather than apply the same answer everywhere. Our cross-industry experience gives us a broad knowledge base, but every project still receives an individual solution.
Sustainability is an important part of Sign Pro’s operation. What does that look like in practice?
Sustainability has to be more than a statement. Our Plantsville operation includes a 40,000-square-foot LEED-certified production facility, and our company has invested in solar power and recycling initiatives. We continually look at ways to reduce waste, manage materials responsibly and improve energy efficiency.
Just as important, we believe durability is part of sustainability. A well-engineered sign that performs for years, can be serviced efficiently and does not need premature replacement is better for the customer and the environment. We also evaluate lighting technology, material utilization and production methods with that long-term view. The objective is to make responsible decisions without compromising the quality or performance our clients expect.
What will drive the next phase of Sign Pro’s growth?
The next phase is about combining craftsmanship with technology. Sign manufacturing will always require skilled people, while technology helps them work more efficiently and accurately.
We continue to invest in digital production, CNC fabrication, workflow systems, project documentation and advanced manufacturing capabilities. We are also focused on expanding our ability to support multi-location and national programs while maintaining the personal service that built the company.
Another major opportunity is deeper collaboration with architects, construction teams, facility managers and corporate branding departments earlier in the planning process. When Sign Pro becomes involved before signage is treated as a last-minute item, we can help create better solutions and reduce unnecessary costs.
